When Was the Hybrid car invented??

You know, we all think that hybrid technology is a result of the high tech revolution; something that was just invented10/15 years ago. I was under the same impression until I did some research. The Hybrid engine has been in existence for over a hundred years. The first hybrid car was built in 1901 by Ferdinand Porsche (sound familiar?) . Thats only 4 years after the diesel engine was built. For some reason it took 100 years to commercialize…..
Any thoughts?
